To Whom It May Concern:

I am pleased to write this letter of reference for Janice Adams, whom I have known since I came to Abu Dhabi Women's College in 1994. As Learning Resources Centre (LRC) Supervisor, I have observed her in her capacity as a teacher with her classes in the LRC, and have worked closely with her as she "wore her other hat" of editor and web designer.

Janice was among the first wave of those of us who took up web design at Abu Dhabi Women's College and started creating informational and instructional web sites for access by students, faculty, and the community. We have often collaborated over HTML coding, design, and content challenges, as we worked on our respective sites. I have observed Janice to be an excellent self-starter. She has proven that she can set challenging goals for herself and reach them through dogged hard work and determination.

Janice's work on the college newsletter, the Corniche Chronicle, has seen its transformation from a small print newsletter, to a large, interactive online news site which includes English language activities created specifically, by Janice or under her editorial supervision, for its monthly content. As one who develops web sites myself, I know how many hours she puts in every month to refresh this site, and it seems that every month there is a new feature added and new students joining its staff. To her great credit, these uncountable hours worked towards producing a monthly, content rich web site that is of professional quality, are given of her own time, above and beyond her normal teaching duties.

I know Janice to be an effective editor as well as web designer. Her product, the online Corniche Chronicle and its companion Learning Activities Link, reflects consistent quality. She is assertive about soliciting content material, encouraging to her student team about their contributions, and extremely conscientious about deadlines and proofreading. She doesn't crack under stress and demonstrates the ability to handle conflict well.

In addition to monthly management of the Corniche Chronicle/Learning Activities Link, Janice has produced another educational web site that outlines a student project for creating web pages in Foundations (our entry level) English. She has conducted this project with great success, and has effectively promoted the project's use by other teachers at the college. Further, she has collaborated with me over two other instructional sites, and her input has been extremely useful.

I can recommend Janice most highly as a web designer, editor, and teacher. Her intelligence, creativity, and communication skills will carry her forward into any career in the fields of communications or teaching that she might choose.
