Dr. Graddon Rowlands To Whom it May Concern, I am pleased to write in support of Mrs Janice Adams who has been a member of the English faculty at the Abu Dhabi Women's College since August 1991. Mrs Adams has taught English as a Second language at beginner and intermediate levels with conspicuous success. She has also taught Business Communications and has helped devise the specialised English courses for the Communication Technology programme. She has been much involved in course development and has assumed system wide responsibilities is this area and in assessment. As a teacher Mrs Adams is committed, creative and devoted to the success of her students. She is student centered but she also maintains high standards and students invariably respond to her insistence that they consistently produce the best of what they are capable. She is patient and painstaking and in one of the strongest departments of English throughout the HCT system Mrs Adams is one of the true lynch-pins. Were this all I would be happy to recommend Mrs Adams as an exceptional teacher but, by virtue of her contributions to the College newspaper, The Corniche Chronicle, she has proved herself to be unique. A founding editor of the paper, the first such college newspaper in the system and also of The Pearl, the College's annual magazine, Mrs Adams worked with a succession of student editors to make sure that both publications were of the highest quality, properly reflecting the life of the College. Taking full advantage of the developing technology Mrs Adams then spearheaded the move to make The Corniche Chronicle an on-line publication and through linking its various articles with class assignments she made the paper a unique and highly effective learning tool. For this work she has received system-wide acclaim which is richly deserved. All these extra-curricular activities were undertaken willingly and cheerfully without any request for monetary or other reward. Mrs Adams is a delightful colleague, popular with her peers and valued by her supervisors. She would be an asset to any faculty and I was fortunate that she was on my team throughout my tenure at Abu Dhabi Women's College. She was an enormous asset both in the classroom and outside and she has my unqualified recommendation. Yours sincerely,
